FRENCH PRESS

Updated on

If you're looking for a simple and affordable way to make a delicious cup of coffee, a French press might be just what you need. Also known as a press pot or plunger pot, a French press uses a metal mesh filter and a plunger to brew coffee and extract its full flavour. This method of brewing allows for more oils and flavours to be extracted from the coffee grounds, resulting in a rich and full-bodied cup of coffee. In this guide, we'll walk you through the basics of brewing with a French press, including the materials you'll need and the steps to follow to brew the perfect cup. Whether you're a coffee aficionado or a beginner, a French press is a great addition to any coffee lover's collection.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • French press
  • Spring Valley Coffee Rongo, Zamanee or Gourmet beans
  • Coffee grinder (optional)
  • Water
  • Stovetop or kettle
  • Brewing guide:

Instructions:

  1. Boil water in a kettle or on a stovetop until it reaches around 93-96c.
  2. While the water is heating, grind your coffee beans to a coarse consistency. If you don't have a grinder, you can purchase pre-ground coffee, but freshly ground beans will yield a more flavourful cup of coffee.
  3. Add the coffee grounds to your French press. A good rule of thumb is to use 28 grams of coffee per 125 grams of water.
  4. Once the water has reached the proper temperature, pour it over the coffee grounds in the French press, ensuring that all the grounds are wet. Give it a quick stir to make sure the coffee is fully saturated.
  5. Place the plunger and lid on the French press, but don't press down just yet. Let the coffee brew for 4-5 minutes.
  6. After 4-5 minutes, press down the plunger slowly to separate the brewed coffee from the grounds.
  7. Pour the coffee into your favourite mug and enjoy! You can add milk or sweetener if desired.

Using a French press is a simple and easy way to make a great cup of coffee. By following these steps, you'll have a delicious cup of coffee in just a few minutes. Enjoy!
